What It Does:

  • Displays a small graphical window asking you for your email address and smtp email server address. The trojan will send confidential user information to the address provided.
  • Displays a small window with details on where top find updates to this program. While this is displaying, the trojan activates and begins setting itself up for attack by a malicious remote user.
  • Harvests passwords from multiple locations on the computer, including email, online passwords (which would include bank passwords) and network passwords.
  • Adds itself to the registry so it starts when Windows does.
  • Sends protected information to remote users.


  • How It Infects:
    Trojan.PWS.Zombie.1 can be distributed by any means, including but not limited to:
  • Email attachments
  • Instant messenger attachments
  • Infected websites
  • Hyperlinks to infected websites from email or instant messages
  • Downloading by other malware
  • Through peer-to-peer networks.

    How To Avoid Infection:
    Do not click any unexpected links in instant messages. Do not download email attachments from unexpected sources. Do not download unknown files or files from unknown sources. Scan all downloaded files with StopSign and ensure that all updates are installed from Microsoft Update.
