What It Does:

  • Places copies of itself and other infections on your computer and in shared network folders, thereby spreading to other computers
  • May make copies of itself and other infections to available removable media, like flash drives and floppy disks
  • Installs itself into the registry so that the infection runs when Windows starts.

    Win32.HLLW.Autoruner is primarily spread through removable media and shared network folders.

    How To Avoid Infection:
    Do not click on any unknown files in shared folders. Do not click on any unknown files in flash drives or floppy disks. Do not click any unexpected links in instant messages. Do not download email attachments from unexpected sources. Do not download unknown files or files from unknown sources. Scan all downloaded files with StopSign and ensure that all updates are installed from Microsoft's Windows Update.
